Fresh harvested apples tossed in sugar and cinnamon bake under a buttery crumble topping, creating an aroma not soon forgotten.

If you are an apple pie lover you will also enjoy this fuss free version that’s easier to put together. ┬áThe perfect dessert for the beginner cook.
Select apples that are recommended for baking and a little tart, such as Granny Smith, or Braeburn. And you can use a mixture of several types of apples also.

Apple crisp is delicious served warm from the oven and it’s also great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 6 med tart apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar- granulated
  • 3 tbsp white sugar additional for the apples
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 tblsp soft unsalted butter ( if using salted butter, omit 1/8 tsp salt)
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • juice of half of a lemon

Instructions

  • Cream butter, brown sugar and 1/4 C white sugar
  • Add in the flour and salt
  • Mix together until well combined
  • Mix in the oats and walnuts until combined and crumbly
  • Set aside
  • Peel, core and slice the apples
  • Pour lemon juice over the apples and toss
  • Sprinkle in 3 Tblsp white sugar and the cinnamon
  • Coat all the apples with the cinnamon sugar mixture
  • Pour apples into a 9" deep dish buttered pie plate
  • Cover the apples with the crumb mixture
  • Bake at 350 degree F for 45-50 minutes
  • Serve alone or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
